Lyceum sells Compact Media Group to Ole
Lyceum Capital, the growth investor, today announces that Compact Media Group, the leading independent media advisory group, has been sold to Ole, a Toronto based rights management company.
Compact provides independent rights management by collecting and delivering royalties on its clients’ behalf. Since Lyceum’s £17 million investment in 2010, Compact has evolved to become the leading independent global collection agent for audio visual secondary rights, representing over 250,000 works. The business has grown from c.360 clients to over 1400 media companies across the globe, including 40 of the top 50 leading UK independent production companies and a number of major US rights holders, such as Dreamworks. Other clients include BBC Worldwide, All3Media, Fremantle, Jim Henson and National Geographic.
Over the period of Lyceum’s ownership there has been substantial investment in Compact’s people and systems. The business has diversified its service lines and now provides data management, music management and production financing.
In acquiring Compact, Ole will be able to accelerate expansion into Europe and rapidly build scale in the TV industry, as well as offering its rights ownership products to Compact’s client base.
Dan Adler, Partner at Lyceum said, “Compact is one of the few organisations capable of administering intellectual property rights on a global scale – vital services to the independent production sector for which the UK is considered a world leader. With an established presence in North America, Ole is a great fit for Compact and we are confident in the future success of the combined group. We are proud to have supported Compact on its journey to becoming an innovative and integral partner to many of the world’s leading media companies.”
David Johnson, CEO of Compact said, “We are delighted to combine forces with Ole. Compact already serves a large number of clients in North America, which makes it a great fit and helps us to become even bigger and better. We have greatly valued our partnership with the team at Lyceum, whose vision and support were instrumental in transforming Compact into the industry champion that it is today.”
