Mark is the founder and Chief Executive of the Abstract group of companies. This is a vehicle for a variety of new ventures, including commercial property development and investment, corporate investment and investment in contemporary art.
Abstract has recently completed the development of two new office buildings in the City of London, working with Hines (UK), on the site of the former International Headquarters of the Salvation Army. In December 2004, Abstract acquired the former Trinity, Post and Mirror offices in Birmingham, and is building a 312,000 square foot 14 storey prestigious Grade A office block scheduled for occupation by the beginning of 2007.
Abstract has a significant healthcare sector focus through Abstract Integrated Healthcare, developing new medical centres for the NHS and involved in Pharmacy2U, one of the first on-line pharmacies.
Between 1998 and 2000, Mark turned Akeler Holdings Plc from a steel business into a commercial real estate development group. By March 2000, it had developed over four million square feet, specialising in office and high-tech industrial accommodation throughout the UK.
Akeler was sold to Security Capital European Realty in 1998. At the time Mark left the company, it was recognised as one of the most active and innovative property companies in the UK and was fast developing a similar recognition in Europe.
He was a non-executive director of Southern Cross Healthcare before its sale to Lyceum Capital in 2002.
During the mid 1980's, Mark was a director of Baltic Plc, responsible for the development of their property activities, specialising in Enterprise Zones.
Mark is a trustee of the Sick Children's Trust, a Tate Patron and a trustee of Uppingham School. A qualified solicitor, he took a 2.1 degree in Law from the University of Birmingham. He is married with four children.
